There are many times when seeking assistance from someone else can provide us with clarity. If you find yourself in such a situation, a solution-focused, short-term counselling session—sometimes even a single session—may be just what you need.
Focus on strengths and solutions: We will focus on your strengths, identifying and using the your existing skills and successes to build solutions, rather than focusing on deficits.
Future-oriented and goal-driven: During our sessions we will concentrate on defining a desired future and identify the small, concrete steps needed to get there, creating a sense of hope as you'll leave with actionable steps.
Identifies and uses "exceptions": I will ask about times when the problem was less severe or absent, which we refer to as the "exceptions," and then we can use these exceptions to find effective strategies to repeat.
Empowers building Confidence: as we focus on what you can do, your confidence and motivation increase, leading to a positive cycle of change.
Effective for a wide range of Presentations: We can explore a variety challenges, including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, family and relationship issues, and behavioural problems, if you find you would like to go deeper we can extend our sessions. Sometimes you don't realise the impact until you start to explore.
Short-term and efficient: as we are structuring our time together using a brief therapy model, it a good option if you want or need a faster-moving approach that provides life-long skills.
In summary, these sessions are designed for individuals facing significant and challenging decisions, who struggle to understand their options and the implications of each choice. A counsellor can provide valuable support by listening attentively and recognizing your strengths and capacity for change. The focus is on the present and future, using past experiences only for context and understanding, not for processing history.
